January 2004

Saturday 31st January - Gallery nearly fixed - you can view the photos so it's mainly back to normal.

I have had a mad couple of days and the weekend is not over yet... basically I had a big report due for Friday and in order to finish it off on time I was sat at my desk working solidly (even through my lunch break) from 7:30am to 6pm. I just about got the main bulk of it done but the report is still unfinished. Oh well... Getting home at 6:30, I was then straight out again for Sarah Jane's 20th - photos here. It was pretty good, but I was really rather tired!! Today I slept in, went into town at for lunch with everyone at Yates, and didn't get home till 6, at which point I had to leave immediately to go to the NME awards gig in Manchester. It was quite good, but not as good as I'd hoped. The kids there were going nuts and it was quite mental really. Anyway, I hardly even have time to write this cos I need to get ready for tomorrow, cos at 8am I'm going to some random mountain in the Lake District to do some scrambling (a mix between hiking and rock climbing) in the cold, wet and wind. Fun fun fun!!

The week coming up - I have a 3 day training course on "core engineering competencies" in a hotel (just for a change of scenery really!), I'm in work on Thursday, and I'm taking Friday off to come down to Loughborough for the weekend! Hopefully I'll have had a good night's sleep by then!

Thursday 29th January - The website is now on the new host, but I am waiting for the tech support people to reply to me about the gallery problem. It's a really easy problem to fix but only they can do it, so please bear with me while I wait for them to check their emails!

Coming up this weekend:

Monday 26th January - I am in the process of transferring this web site to a new host which is half the cost and double the space as the last one, so please bear with me while I get things working again, in particular the gallery. This new host is pretty good though, and I might soon be able to add new stuff, like a guestbook that doesn't keep breaking... If you find a broken link, please let me know.

Been watching my housemates DVD of "The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe" - it's classic! I grew up to that! Aslan and Peter and Edmund and Lucy and Susan and the beavers and the stone table... good shit!

Sunday 25th January - This week has gone nice and quickly, can't believe I've already done 3 weeks in my new placement. Its good though, cos at least the time doesn't drag anymore. This weekend has been fairly busy; Friday night we all wentound to Tara and Andi's for a posh meal - it was delicious!! Saturday I went dry slope skiing in Rossendale (the other side of Blackburn), and I was pleasantly surprised that I remembered how to do it! My legs also remembered a few muscles they haven't used since last March too...! The minute we got back from skiing, we went straight back out to the bowling alley just round the corner from my house, and played a couple of games. In the second game I got 111 which is my highest score ever (as far as I can remember!). I came 3rd place in that game, beating JJ and Andi who always compete for the title. We then went back to JJ's house to eat pizza and drink cocktails, whilst watching a Tom Cruise overdose of Cocktail and Top Gun. We have just got back from the cinema - don't bother with scary movie 3, it's a few cheap laughs but that's it.

Here's my plan for the next few weekends (Fri-Sun):

Sunday 18th January - Had G's 21st last night - nice meal in Tiggi's, then (expensive) drinks in the trendy bar Ajai works in, then on to Tokyo Joes. As a general rule I do not pay £6 to get into somewhere where the drinks are so expensive that I had blown all my money within half an hour! Still, it was a good night. G's actual birthday is on Tuesday. Photos will probably be online on Tuesday.

This week gone by, I played football Monday night, went swimming Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and played a bit of basketball yesterday (for the first time in 4 years!). If I can keep this up I might even begin to get healthy! On Friday night we went to see "Paycheck" with Ben Affleck and Uma Thurman in it. Don't bother with it. It is the exact same storyline as "The Bourne Identity", "Total Recall", "Johnny Mnemonic" etc. I'm now looking forward to "Scary Movie 3", "The Runaway Jury", and even "Big Fish" maybe.

Tuesday 13th January - Finally booked my flights for the ski trip I've been planning. I'm flying from Blackpool to Munich via London Stansted and back for £55! Thank you Ryanair and Easyjet :-) I'll be flying out with Mike and meeting Matt (both from my first year in hall). Matt is living and working in Munich on his placement year. 4 days skiing and whatever else Munich has to offer (beer!!). I was there twice last year (once for skiing and another time on a business trip), but I haven't actually seen the city yet.

I played football last night and went swimming this evening, I cannot believe how low my fitness level has sunk over the Christmas holidays. I'm going back tomorrow night and as many nights as I can spare to sort it out! I'm currently planning to come down to Loughborough the weekend of 7th/8th February but can come down any time really, if there's anything special going on.

Coming soon to losingtouch.co.uk (when I can be arsed):

Sunday 11th January - Right I've finished the upgrade of the site, including an improved version of the gallery. Saw "The Last Samurai" last night - it is excellent so go see it! Had a very nice curry on Friday night, but they were charging for papadoms! 70p each... what happened to the unlimited supply I'm used to?! First week of work has been OK, I just need to get my head around it. 240 acronyms so far...

Thursday 8th January - Got bored. Redesigned website. Not finished but you can see kinda what it will look like. Work is going OK, the days are going slightly quicker than they were in my last placement. Hopefully I'll be enjoying it when I get into the swing of things. I somehow spent £70 in Asda the other night, on not very much really. Worrying...

Good luck with exams etc. I'll do a bit more updating tomorrow night (this is what earning money does to me - makes me so poor I can't go out! Where's the sense in that? I wish I knew!)

Friday 2nd January - Happy new year people! Hope you all had a good Christmas. Sorry about the lack of updates on the site. It's harder to update without my computer and I've had better things to do. Mine and Carl's new years eve photos are online, as are the oceana photos from Monday night! I have spent a large part of this week badly hungover - but that is the sign of a few excellent nights out!

I return up north tomorrow (via Stoke for Matt's 21st!!) so I'll actually be back in Preston some time on Sunday, probably with another mother of all hangovers. I shouldn't get them! Its cos I don't drink a huge amount in Preston. I start work on Monday in a new job, which hopefully should be much better than my last one!

Also, when I get some time, I'm gonna redesign this website cos I'm getting bored of this layout, and it should soon be better than ever before.

Thanks Epsom cru for an excellent Christmas holiday - and thanks Oceana for being so damn good!! I should be back briefly at Easter - I have no idea how much time I get off but I'll take some off anyway. Byee!!
