December 2003

Thursday 11th December - I'm writing this at work again  cos I have plenty of time here and no time at all at  home!  Saw Hell is for Heroes in the Preston Students  Union Tuesday night, which is a tiny venue and therefore  very good.  The first support band were called 'Copperpot  Journals' who were very very good, and I met them after  the gig, had a chat to the lead singer and bought their  album from him, and got the band to sign it!  The second  support band were called 'The Lucky Nine', and this was  their first live performance. You might recognise a  couple of them... their lead singer is the lead singer  from Hundred Reasons and the guitarist is the one from  'A'!  They were very good.  And of course, Hell is for  Heroes - they were excellent, and I was holding the lead  singer up when he dived into the pit.  Nice.

Last night I saw The Darkness in the Manchester Apollo.   They were amazing (of course) - and put on an excellent  show which involved 2 encores, lots of explosions and  smoke, massive flames, snow(!) and so much ticker tape  that someone must have drowned!  The most impressive  thing though was when Justin appeared to hover over the  crowd, moving straight through them from one side to the  other, whilst playing his guitar. He was being support by  about 6 security staff, who somehow managed to force  their way right through the crowd.  Very cool!

Tonight is the undergrad Christmas meal and party. All  you can eat/all you can drink... and I've got to work all  day tomorrow too!!  Roll on Tuesday (last day!!).

Tuesday 2nd December - This one will be short cos I am so unbelievably tired at the moment, partially due to ironing Gemma's carpet in her flat to remove wax from Halloween (long story!) and partially due to Mike and American Dave phoning AGAIN at stupid o clock. I had even put my phone on silent cos I had a preminition that they might try to wake me up again... but somehow just the tiny light of my phone was enough to rip me from deep slumber and wake me up. Thanks guys.

Bristol was amazing - thanks to Ellen, Tom, Stat, Egg, Lucy and all of Ellen's really cool housemates for such a good weekend! Happy birthday Ellen!! Friday night we went to the Carling Academy for the rock night, which was the best night out I've had in a while... then Saturday was spent mainly sleeping, and out again to the most expensive club ever (Revolution bar then Evolution - average cos £4 a drink so I could only afford 3 drinks before I became literally fully overdrawn in 2 accounts!). Saw a fight involving a lit BBQ... not good! The first film of photos of the weekend are here with more to follow soon!
